Mountain Information

Furano Ski Ground has been one of the most popular ski destinations in Japan offering a variety of runs suitable for beginners, recreational skiers and athletes looking for a challenge.

Experience skiing under bright sunshine with the scenic background of volcanic mountain ranges and plumes spiraling up into the clear sky.

The mountain is split into two zones - the wide Kitanomine Zone and the long, smooth Furano Zone; both zones can be skied with a single lift pass. Easy access is assured via the Link Run/Lift and shuttle.

There is also a variety of equipment rentals available to visitors as well as 2 high-quality ski schools available for people wishing to take lessons. Friendly and experienced local instructors are also happy to offer you lessons in English.

There are extensive areas for beginners with a variety of wide, open runs and great views located at the base of Kitanomine Zone, accessed from the Quad chair, and at the Furano Zone at the top of the ‘Romance’ lift.

For intermediate skiers, there are both steeper courses and gentle meandering courses that wind around the mountain

The most popular un-groomed area for advanced skiers in Furano is underneath the Kitanomine gondola or the long and fairly steep Kumaotoshi(both accessed from the gondola). The top lift (above the Ropeway) and the powder found on the skiers left of the Furano zone will also add all the excitement a skier or snowboarder could hope for. The powder area is not groomed at night and makes for great riding after a big snowfall (especially in the morning)!

Queues and crowds are hardly ever found (even in peak season). Sometimes you are so isolated that it feels like you are skiing in your own private ski ground! This means you will spend less time in line and more time skiing. After all, you are on a ski holiday, not a “wait in line” holiday.

Another advantage of Furano is its geographic location - literally nested in the centre of Hokkaido. This provides easy access to neighboring resort such as Kamui Ski Links, Tomamu Alpha Resort and Sahoro Resort. Day trips to at least one of these resorts is highly recommended and can be arranged upon arrival.

For those seeking a truly unique powder experience, backcountry skiing/riding on the live volcano is a must. Our certified Furano-based guides introduce you to a whole new level of excitement on the island’s highest peak, Mt. Asahidake, or the local’s favorite, Mt. Tokachidake.
